May We See Our Selves In The Eyes Of Others
the Background
In 2009 Robert O'neill Young traveled to war-torn Sierra Leone, West Africa to direct and produce a documentary in the country's capital Freetown. The creative director returned to the United States inspired by the resiliency of the embattled nation's people and within a month conceived and photographed an image in honor of them, "Face Of Sierra Leone."
Fourteen months later, YOUNG would complete his first edition in this dynamic original Fine Art Photography Collection, YOUNG WORLD FACES. The 7 image collection features women of various nationalities with their faces elaborately painted in the colours of their country's flag. Placed in a dynamic lighting environment and photographed by YOUNG, the resulting images represent not only patriotism but also the humanity of the people of each country.
the Premise
the Big Idea: "YOUNG World Faces: The Search hosted by Robert O'neill Young" will take viewers around the world as YOUNG sets out on a journey to various nations. In each nation, YOUNG will seek out the woman that will represent her country and join the collection of YOUNG World Faces.
The series will be broken down into three distinct segments:
Act 1-The Search: During the search, we will visit the historic landmarks of the particular country, followed by more hidden gems only known by locals. Our search will take us from historic ruins to local markets, and beyond. Act 1 celebrates patriotism and the best the country has to offer.
Act 2-Face to Face: Once YOUNG finds the one, we will then learn about that individual, her history, and the circumstances that made her the woman she is today. She could be a doctor, a student, could come from a rich family, or be homeless. The options are endless. Act 2 will reveal a very personal perspective of that nation.
Act 3-The Creation: The audience will watch the process of the creation of a YOUNG World Face. First, we will engage the woman's physical transformation through make-up, lighting, and then the photography session. Secondly, we will experience her emotional transformation as she sees herself in the mirror at the end of the session.
In closing, we will reveal a large-scale print of the final photograph in the nation's capital. The image will be showcased in either a coordinated gala or simply outside in a public place. The location of the reveal will be determined by the circumstances of each nation.
YOUNG World Faces: The Search hosted by Robert Young will give viewers an entertaining and educational look at an incredible nation of the world, and deliver a passionate perspective of the people who call it home.

the Host and Creator
YOUNG was born in the metropolitan city of Toronto, Canada, in the early '70s. As a teenager he dove deeply into the performing arts, touring overseas first as a dancer and eventually as a poet. YOUNG quickly became an ambassador of literature and the spoken word, producing and hosting a live theatrical poetry series entitled "All Truths Spoken Are Poetry In Motion". Soon the driven artist began appearing as a special guest on television programs, mentoring youth, and speaking at various conferences. At this point, YOUNG was barely 20.
Commerce quickly entered the artists' life as a slew of corporate opportunities came his way. Regardless, YOUNG remained dedicated to the arts, recording a poetry album entitled "Answer to the Call". After filming his Much Music Award-winning video for one of his poetic recordings, YOUNG landed the opportunity to enter the film industry in the United States as a non-linear editor.
By the age of 29, YOUNG had become one of the most sought-after non-linear editors in the music video industry. His client list included the likes of Pharrell, Jay-z, Beyonce, and Sean "Diddy/Love" Combs, to name a few. Commercials and documentaries quickly followed. 3 years later, YOUNG would make his professional transition to directing with a series of speculations commercials and eventually his directorial debut with the documentary-style music video, "Hold Ya Head" by the Notorious BIG featuring Bob Marley.
Determined to become a well-rounded filmmaker, he returned to his roots in literature and moved to Los Angeles to write his first feature-length film script. He also took on photography, originally with the intent to master composition for film. His love for the craft expanded exponentially, resulting in the 7 exhibitions of his fine art photography in Miami by the age of 37.
Young has also cut his teeth on the global stage having shot Music Videos in remote locations including Romania and China, Commercials in Trinidad and Tobago, Documentaries in the Dominican Republic and Barbados and Photoshoots, Exhibitions and large-scale Public Art Activations across the U.S., Colombia and Canada. YOUNG's drive to "Capture Life's Passion" in this constantly changing global environment is evident in his artworks and creative direction.
YOUNG continues to use his talents and resources to engage in projects that merge art, commerce, and philanthropy. As he embarks on his 5th decade on the planet, YOUNG's wisdom has grown exponentially but his focus on the purpose of his craft remains as clear as it was in his teens:
"Art magnifies the perception of an object or an idea. That magnification is a poetic act of communication on a fundamental level. The intrinsic value of the dialogue that Art can create between individuals, communities, and nations as a whole, is simply an invaluable tool the world must embrace." -Robert Young
